I love my dirt dog!!! I have had my dirt dog for about three weeks now. My b-friend was not sold at first but he loves that he doesn't have to sweep.

My floor needs to be swept every day. My dog going in and out several times, tracking dirt and debris in. My b-friend who works construction bringing in dirt, sand from the beach. Food from the nephews and niece all gone. I am a barefoot bohemian and I no longer suffer from dirty feet. I run it once a day and it works wonders. I do recommend following the instructions and cleaning it on the third use. Just like any rotary brush, string, hair etc gets wrapped around it. By cleaning it keeps it going, just remember to put the brushes back in before you clean. Already happened once. :)

It runs for about an hour and a half, beeps if the compartment is full. And takes about 3 hours to charge. I have to pick up my floor mats and any cords, and it is a loud hard to hear the television over it but a little inconvenience to not have to sweep every day. My bedrooms have carpet so I close the doors. It is so sensitive it bounces off my dogs, soft bed and toys.

What comes out of the dirt compartment is amazing. It is picking up dust; it always looks like something out of a dryer lint trap.

Bottom line, if you have lots of tile, hardwood floor, linoleum etc this rocks! It will be way worth every penny.

I LOVE MY DIRT DOG!!

I waited a long time to buy this product. I can't afford to make too many mistakes in my purchases, so I try to choose things wisely. I bought it because I figured it would reduce the number of household chemicals I have to use, and with the cost of those chemicals I figured it wouldn't take long before the steam cleaner had paid for itself.



I read through the instructions and decided to use it first in my shower. I filled it with the approximately 3/4 cup of water and set out to have my shower cleaner than it's ever been. I got through approximately 3/4 of the back wall of my shower and already I was out of steam. I then had to unplug it and wait at least 3 minutes before I could refill it and wait another few minutes before I could start again. To completely finish my shower, I had to unplug, wait, and refill a total of 9 times to clean all the walls and the tub itself. By this point, I just wasn't up for testing it anyplace else in my house.



The Haan does seem to be made well, and I am going to keep it because I do want to use it on my mattress, furniture, etc. But for regular cleaning, I'm just not sure it's worth all the effort of filling, waiting, and refilling - over and over again.



Maybe after I work with it a while, it will get better. So many people have given it 5 stars that I was sure this was the product for me. Now I'm not so sure. That's why I say the jury is still out on this one for me.

For at least five years, I have used a Hoover Windtunnel Supreme vacuum. And for as long, I have disliked it. It's tools would easily fall out of their cradle during normal use, it's power cord had thin, easy-to-damage insulation, the power cord was easy to step on the way it was routed, and the vacuum would fall over easily when using the hand tools. My Hoover Windtunnel Supreme vacuum is an annoying example of poor engineering. Finally I decided enough was too much, and just bought a Sanitaire SC5815. What a relief. So far, I like this vacuum because:



* It has a long, well-made power cord. The power cord is routed such that it is easy to keep out of the way

* It is quiet

* It's tools stay in place. It's long crevice tool nests inside a single extension tube. The long crevice tool can be combined with the extension tube thereby eliminating the need for a second extension tool (as implemented by the Hoover).

* When the handle is in the vertical position, the beater brush is automatically lifted off the floor so that the machine does not scrub in place when the hand tools are used.

* The suction is great



This machine cost about $75 more than the Hoover (if you do your Internet research), and well worth the difference.

This machine is still functioning well. I just now changed the drive belt, and I waited much too long to do so. I should have changed it a couple years ago. The belt had been slipping for some time now and I had not noticed until after I changed it. The slippage was do to normal belt wear and was not a fault of this great machine's design.

I have a little hand held Shark that does a better job picking up hair. I am sorry I spent so much money when I could have bought something cheaper with better results. Also the little dirt bags have to be mailordered. All in all I am disappointed in the quality of this expensive product. I read the customer reviews before I ordered it and bought it as the result of the many 4/5 stars review. I would like to rate it 0.

My son gave me this vacuum as a gift Christmas of 2006. When it works, it is great and really picks up the pet hair. HOWEVER, plan on it "visiting" the repair shop frequently for a new brush roller and belt. In 3 years time, the vacuum went thru 6 roller brushes and belts at a cost of $55.00 (including labor), per "visit".



Being disabled with lung cancer and other related health problems, it was easier to pay for a repair than it was to come up with the money to purchase a new vacuum and as I said, when it worked it worked great.



I contacted Bissell by telephone more than once about this problem. They did nothing for me other than be polite and tell me "this part is not covered under warranty ". Don't bother emailing them, they won't reply.



This vacuum did not get "heavy" use. It was used once a week for an hour to an hour and a half by the person who comes into clean and grocery shop for me. It was used on low pile carpet and wasn't used on the lowest setting in an attempt to have the roller brush last longer, which didn't work. It was thoroughly cleaned after each and every use.



Yesterday, the vacuum went into the shop again for yet another brush roller and belt. The guy who owns the repair shop sent my housekeepr home with a brand new Eureka Maxima vacuum and told her to tell me to try it out and that it would do the same type of cleaning job that the Bissell would. That he COULD NOT and WOULD NOT allow me to put one more dime into repairing the Bissell.



The Eureka picks up and cleans just as much if not more pet hair and dander.



In closing, I wish people wouldn't write 5 Star reviews on a product right after the first or second use. Use the product for awhile.

I purchased this particular vacuum, as it was a Consumer Reports best buy. It has since fallen down the ratings with the most recent vacuum cleaner tests.



When new, this vacuum cleans like a champ. It has really good suction and is amazing on carpets. The initial negatives include the weight. This thing is heavy. When I initially purchased it, I didn't have any stairs to navigate. Now I have to lug this thing up and down two flights of stairs. This also does not work well for vacuuming the stairs, simply because it is way to heavy and the the wand will only reach a few steps at a time.



At first, I thought it was great. Then the beater brush stopped rolling. So I replaced the belt. I found myself replacing the belt every couple of months. Then, after about a year of owning this unit, I replaced the belt and it was still not working. So I assumed that I had defective belts and kept buying and replacing belts. At this point, the vacuum beater brush spins on hardwood floors, but not carpet. Yes, the carpet height adjustment is in the highest position.



After reading and studying this vacuum cleaner's downfalls, I decided to replace the beater brush assembly and the belt (again). This helped immensely. The vaccum was up and running like new. After about two weeks of brand new-like vacuum, the beater brush stopped rolling on carpet. I'm ready to toss this think in the dumpster. However, I'm trying my best to get as much life out of this as possible.



I'm tempted to give this a one-star rating. However, it worked well initially and is fairly inexpensive when compared to other cleaners. If you haven't already, check out the review "MAJOR REPAIR ISSUES CURRENTLY WITH THIS VACUUM, BUYER BEWARE!, October 19, 2007". I have experienced several of the issues mentioned in that review.



My advice--buy a good vacuum and save yourself hours of frustration. This one just drives me to depression.

It's small enough to avoid back pain and strong enough to hold its own after daily use in an office environment.



It's the 2nd one we own.. first one lasted ~ 8 yrs under similar daily use conditions.



A good buy and one our concierge doesn't regret.

The Bissell ProHeat 66Q4 2X Deep Cleaner is a great improvement to units I have used in the past. I have had experience with models that do not heat the water (simply relies on hot water you put into it) and rented models that usually do a wonderful job. After using it on both a heavy traffic area of carpet and an area that I thought had little dirt, I was amazed. It seemed to lift dirt out of areas that "appeared" to be clean already. There were some tough spots that needed extra attention, but the Bissell ProHeat certainly lives up to expectations.



The unit is not small or light, but for a carpet cleaner it is certainly on par with others. The option to heat the water is great, but of course it's not for every kind of material and it can be easily turned off. The settings are a great feature. You can use the hot air system to dry items faster or use the heavy duty spot cleaning for tough areas. It also has settings for light or normal cleaning. Combined with the ability to treat spots with extra cleaner, you can clean just about anything. Most units do not come with the options and settings available on the Bissell 66Q4.



Generally speaking, this unit outperforms the majority of cleaners that I have used. The cleaning power and options available really make it stand out.

!$ Dyson DC25 Ball All Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner

After spending $350 on my Dyson DC25 I raced home to put it together (very easy to do) and waited to be blown away by this "revolutionary" vacuum. I'm still waiting. It is an okay vacuum but for the money, I want great. Here's my quick pros and cons:



Pros: Very easy to maneuver, light weight, cleaner than other bagless vacuums to empty (but still messy), secure onboard tool storage, integrated hose tube (this is important to me because my toddlers loved grabbing the tubes from the side of my Hoover then running around the house using them as weapons), washable filters.



Cons: The short cord...don't underestimate how annoying this can be. I constantly have to stop and reposition the plug. The small canister...granted I have 2 labs and 3 toddlers, but even vacuuming every other day I typically empty the bin 4-5 times while cleaning my 3000 sq ft. house. The lack of hand tools. For the money it needs to include the upholstery tool and a dusting tool (btw they are $70 and $30 each to buy!) The hose wand is heavy when you are trying to clean ceiling fans, etc. The small wheels in the back are tiny plastic things and easily get caught and cords, thresholds, etc when you are just moving the vacuum around. The vacuum does seem to put off a lot of heat, too.



When I bought the Dyson, I compared it with my 5 year old Hoover Windtunnel and my friends Kenmore Progressive (consumer reports best buy). The Dyson and the Kenmore cleaned about the same but the Kenmore did a much better job of picking up the matted down carpet. The carpet "looked freshly vacuumed" after the Kenmore.



In conclusion...the DC25 is an okay vacuum but I don't believe it is worth the money. If I could do it over I would most likely but the Kenmore progressive...much cheaper and works just as well.

$ Hoover Platinum Cyclonic Canister Vacuum with Power Nozzle Bagless S3865

I had an upright bagless before, compared to it, this is so much better. Canister is easier to maneuver and gets into the corners and small spaces better. This is very powerful with half the noise. My dog is not even scared of me vacuuming anymore! It cleans up all the dog hair; i really like the smaller power attachment to clean the couch. The canister dumps out from the bottom which is a great feature and makes it much easier/cleaner to empty.

I really hope the company looks at these reviews. I would give this product 5 stars were it not for the "small" but extremely annoying design issues. First of all it does get stuck in the least likely places such as between the legs of a chair. My guess is that there's nothing one can change to avoid that. If space openings roughly match the Scooba's width it'll likely get stuck there - unfortunately. This is not a huge issue. Once it gets stuck a couple of times you find ways to rearrange furniture to prevent the device from going there the next time.

Much more annoying is everything related to the tank design. Latches, handles, sensors are a nightmare. The pull-up release handle and the latch on the tank is in my lowly opinion the height of design incompetence. The latch would release on its own in the middle of cleaning causing Scooba to stop and complain that the tank is open. Ironically some time later the latch got stuck so I could not take out the tank. No amount of pulling on the handle did the trick. The flimsy handle finally broke off. I now have an invalid device that still works but looks like it fought in a war.

While it was still brand new it would frequently stop and signal for you to "check tank," while there were no obvious reasons for it - solution tank still full, dirty water tank still with plenty of capacity. This is by far my biggest problem with the device because what I was really hoping to accomplish is leave it cleaning when I depart the house in the morning and come back to clean floors when I return. Instead you come back and find this thing either stuck, with a popped tank, or just a bogus "check tank" signal and you realize that it didn't get even 5 minutes into its cleaning. You now have to "jiggle the handle" and listen for an hour to its - fairly loud - operation when you want to relax after work.

All of these issues are made all the more irritating since I took extra care to avoid them by thoroughly cleaning it on a regular basis.

I would still recommend it to anyone who likes clean floor, has a LOT of patience, but doesnt have time or energy to swiffer. If iRobot folks could put their heads together and fix these rather basic design issues I would be a much bigger proponent. Until then swipper the floors to avoid the frustration.

I am very pleased with my recent purchase of the hose to replace the same hose on my Blue Moon Miele vacuum.

It solved the problem I was having with my vacuum. It was turning itself off as I was vacuuming for no reason and it was constantly doing it, so it was very frustrating to vacuum. I believe there was a loose connection in the hose and the only way to solve it was to replace it. The hose is performing perfectly since I got it and I am very happy with it. I was not happy about the fact that I had to replace it though. I think that a vacuum that cost over a thousand dollars should work perfectly for 20 years or more before parts are wearing out!! I have an Electrolux that worked perfectly for 20 years before a small part had to be replaced in it, so I guess I was spoiled.

I just bought this 2 weeks ago from a door to door salesman. I did pay way over for it as after he left I could have gotten it way cheaper online. I paid $2000 and husband is deployed so maybe that is why :( Anyway, one review says it is really hard to push and that is not true. You have to make sure you have it in "D" which means drive. "N" setting is used for when you are done. I even brought my friend over to see how easy it was to move.

I do agree with the attachments being so many, but I have actually used them. I have cleaned under my refrigerator and stove. I used them on the base boards in the house. I have also used them on my fans in the house with ease. To put the attachments on is sometimes a hassle, but it works wonders I thought. Just my 2 cents worth. :)
